INTERCULTURAL –URBAN MINISTRY DIVISION

 

Welcome to the Intercultural-Urban Ministry Division at Patten University.

 

Our aim is to continue to work in the “Spirit of Excellence” of high academic achievement and engage critical understanding of a personal faith deeply rooted in responding to the needs of the city.

 

Our foci foster an interdisciplinary ethos wherein students are exposed to diverse theoretical perspectives, church and community issues and practical learning and field research and practicum with the objective of community transformation.

 

Our mission is very clear:  New paradigms of engagement are needed for ministry in the urban icon.  It is crucial to understand that the battle for the peace and welfare of the city is spiritual.  The prophetic task is to unmask principalities and powers while challenging the structures that hold us hostage.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

As you complete this BA degree program you will achieve the following learning outcomes:

 

• Display proficiency in holistic church growth, church planting and ministry skills that build communities and sustain people in culturally, historically and geographically diverse environments;
• Exhibit a depth and breadth of leadership, political and cultural skills and knowledge to carry out pastoral activities needed to develop, operate and sustain churches and community services with the goal of transforming communities;
• Use a variety of oral, written and technology-based communication and scholarly research skills to carry out tasks and projects that build and sustain congregations and build communities;
• Recognize and use knowledge about and experience with cultural diversity and world views to guide planting and building community-based churches, congregations and projects;
• Demonstrate proficiency and homiletic integrity using multiple genres of oral presentations, sermons, etc. appropriate for a variety of cultures and traditions.
