Interpreting your results

If you answered ‘False’ on a question, then you should reflect further on that area. It could be a signal that you may prefer a traditional classroom to an online learning environment, but there is no hard and fast rule.

> Questions 1-4: These have to do with technology. Successful online learners generally are comfortable reading and writing online, and have regular access to a computer or tablet. Consider any technology barriers you may have before you enroll.

> Questions 5-9: These have to do with how well you work independently. Because online learning is less-structured than classroom-based learning, it is often a better fit for individuals who are organized, self-directed, and less prone to procrastination.

> Questions 10-12: These have to do with your lifestyle and personal spaces. Online students often must balance school with work or family responsibilities. If you don’t have much energy after your workday, or can’t find a quiet place to focus, this may affect your ability to learn online. Consider your lifestyle and basic needs for rest before you decide to apply.

> Questions 13-16: These have to do with features of the online learning experience. Online learning often works best for individuals who are comfortable reading eBooks and communicating with others online. Often times it can be even be easier to ask and receive help than in an in-person classroom, especially for students that are shy. You should reflect on your preferences around online communication, and needs for face-to-face contact as you consider your options.

As you reflect on your options, imagine what your life and routine would be like as an online learner. If it is a match for your personality and learning style, than you may thrive as a student at Patten Online.
